How are you different to other image generators?

We've created purpose-built AI tools for accelerating high-quality creative production for specific tasks within marketing and ecommerce. We prioritise quality with an creative team as part of our core business.

Do I need to understand how to use AI tools?

No. Our self-service tools are intuitive and non-technical. If you get stuck, our team can help guide, advise and execute projects together.

What AI tools do you use

We use many different foundation models that are interchangeable and updatable as the technology landscape changes. Image generation is only part of our working AI stack. We use vision models, LLMs and both image and video models to create content.

How does Bloom Studios adapt images?

We use existing eCommerce images or basic content for source images. With these inputs, we capture real products and then combine them with AI models and environments, enabling us to solve a wide range of marketing pain points.

How quickly can you produce content?

Fast. However, this is not an instant approach like MidJourney. Core image creation is fast, but knowing which image to create is the slow and considered part - we have creative directors and art directors to help brands define direction, and photographic retouchers to finalise and perfect the content.

Are images finished or do they need retouching?

We deliver images finished, retouched and cleaned up. We can color grade and stylise if needed, but that should be a creative decision by our clients' creative teams.

Are images from Bloom Studios copyrighted?

In general, pure AI generated content is legally not copyrightable, however our AI tool is only part of the creative process and your source photography is part of the image. As with real photography, the creative act continues after the camera shutter is pushed where it enters a post-production workflow. This applies with AI where the human act continues the process to finish the images.

What about photography royalties, rights, licensing and media buyout?

We do not charge licensing for the content generated by Bloom Studios. The models shown in our images are synthetic, the photographers are employees of Bloom Studios and do not have their own additional fees. The models from the source images are completely replaced, meaning there are no additional licensing fees beyond what has already been agreed with the original production.

What about real models?

We have partnerships with a number of professional modelling agencies. We have contracts to digitise the likeness of these models enabling them to lease likeness to brands without showing up on set. The fee structure is a case by case basis, as with most modelling.

What AI models do you use and are they available for commercial use?

We use open source foundational AI models with commercial licensing. We use a number of additional tools, some of which are made available under a Creative Commons license, some of which are developed in-house, all of which provide no additional legal risk.

Are we compliant with AI laws?

Yes. We are actively tracking the developing state of legal affairs with respect to generative AI and how the legalities evolve around the world. There is often a lag between technology and legal oversight, this is true with AI and we will ensure we update our policies and advice to remain ethical, legally compliant and helpful for our clients. We are based in the EU and follow the laws here closely.

Creatives building tools for creatives

Our team is made up of industry insiders from fashion, advertising, film and photo production and tech. We are building tools we wish we already had, to solve many of the problems we wish we hadn’t. Our approach is to fix specific industry issues, such as localising content without the overhead, ensuring diversity in human representation, and accelerating the speed to market for reactive marketing.

AI as an enabler, not a replacer

There is a big gap between the speed of modern digital marketing and the speed of producing photography. We are filling this gap with a new AI-driven approach and not replacing traditional productions. We offer an economical and efficient alternative to physical productions and some brands will prefer this, but we always recommend pushing forward the creative act of photography and fashion when it is needed to express a brand.

Is this an alternative to photographers or art directors?

No. We hire photographers and art directors and give them AI tools to modernize their craft. If and when we release our tools publicly, the intention is that it will be used by people in these creative roles externally and not as a replacement. A creative eye should always be needed.

Are you replacing human models?

It depends. We use source photography taken with real human models (or mannequins), be it in studio or older out-of-date images. Beyond this, there is no other physical production with models. These input models serve as a ‘base’ that we then change as needed. This is similar to retouching faces, painting out details in an image in post-production, except now it is the entirety of the production.

What does this mean for diversity, equity and inclusion?

This is a very complex topic that we are actively tackling together with diverse perspectives from the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. Our ambition is to bring balance to the industry however we can, but because the tech is so new, it introduces new ideas and processes frequently that can both advance or destroy our mission. Our technology can create synthetic humans ad infinitum, so we can craft any face, any skin tone, any human nuance to ensure brands can represent humanity correctly. We have an enabling tool and we are recommending to brands to have a clear perspective on their own ethical position on this to brief correctly. If there are imbalances, we can always adjust.

Generative AI is a truly disruptive technology of our age. At Bloom Studios we are actively working to mitigate the negative impact and turn it into positives. We are offering internship opportunities and training. Our team takes social responsibility concerns seriously and encourages regular dialogue on how to improve services for both the studio itself and our clients work.
